Stroud Harriers FC
The Stroud Harriers of today actually evolved from an informal youth project for eight and nine-year-olds founded by Dave Guy in 1991. Dave had two sons who just wanted to play football with their mates. It was a case really of one man and his car ferrying them around.
The adult team was a very young one to begin with and something like 80 per cent of the players had been part of the original youth club.
It was very much a friends and family scenario, a theme which has continued to this day. Initially they added a few extras to make up numbers, including the well-known Stroud actor Mike Beckingham who played a few games here and there to help them out!
The Stroud Harriers began in Stroud League seven but it’s only been over the past five years that they have really kicked on with a succession of titles, promotions and cup wins. This was under the likes of Steve Beavis, Martyn Edwards, Gordie Gardiner and Craig Cole, who was their most successful manager.
Craig was in charge last season when we won Stroud Division One by 13 points to clinch promotion and win a GFA Junior Cup victory into the bargain.
Leighton Collins takes on the mantle of manager in the 2016/17 season and we look forward to following Leighton and the team
