We are emmersed in a high stimulus, fast pace way of life. Our work-life often demands ever increasing productivity. Submersed in the ‘age of information’ our senses are often flooded. They are most definitely bombarded with information.
It has become second-nature to respond to stimulus at fast and almost automated manner. Stress inhibits the body’s natural healing abilities and tightens the body unevenly. This results in physical imbalances. We can find it challenging to ‘switch-off’ from this way of life.
Our sympathetic nervous system is on overdrive and we generate feelings that can overwhelm us. The body perceives this ‘over-stimulation’ or ‘stress’ response as being a heightened state of alert. It is the sympathetic nervous system that governs the fight flight or fight freeze response. We can help to move away away from a heightened state of alert by switching on the parasympathetic nervous system. We can do this by using restorative yoga and mindful breathing.
Restorative Yoga is a revolutionary tool
It helps to create the ideal conditions to relieve tension and stress. It invites deep relaxation, stillness and peace. Deep relaxation nurtures and vitalises the body. It guides the body to restore and renew.
This Yoga format uses props such as bolsters, blankets and blocks. These create a supportive experience for deep relaxation. The props allow each pose to honour an individual body. This allows everyone to experience comfort and relaxation. The props provide support to allow the body to maintain a pose. This helps to cultivate presence in the pose for longer than active poses. Holding a pose with ease for longer periods allows a gentle unwinding to unfold. This releases tension from the body and helps the mind to become more still.
