What is Yoga
Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines which originated in ancient India. It includes breath control, simple meditation, and the adoption of specific bodily postures. It is widely practiced for health and relaxation for both physical and mental well-being.
Many scientific trials have been published on this form of activity. Most suggest it is a safe and effective way to increase physical activity. This activity is especially beneficial for strength, flexibility and balance. There is also evidence regular participation is beneficial for people with high blood pressure, heart disease, aches and pains. These include lower back pain, depression and stress.
Currently we offer weekly Restorative and Pregnancy Yoga classes run by Nicki Hutchinson.
Our work-life often demands ever increasing productivity. In this ‘age of information’ our senses are often flooded and bombarded with stimuli. It has become second-nature to respond to stimulus at fast and almost automated manner. This response creates stress which inhibits the body’s natural healing abilities. During pregnancy yoga is a wonderful practice for you and your baby. The pregnancy classes are a great way to prepare yourself for the birthing process. You will learn practices that can be helpful to manage pain during labour. You will also enjoy bonding with your baby and the company of other pregnant women. Learn more about Pregnancy Yoga here.
Yoga 1-2-1 sessions
We offer both classes and 1-2-1 sessions based on your personal situation and preference. The following 1-2-1 sessions are currently available:
1-2-1 for CFS, Fibromyalgia and Pain
This is a gentle session, guided by your needs and goals. Typically the aim of a session will be to create a sense of harmony and well being. You will learn to listen to your body and respond to its needs and cues.
1-2-1 for Trauma and PTSD
Trauma or PTSD can bring about a feeling of being “disconnected” from your body. This session can help bring the body and mind together. It will help to re-balance the nervous system and better regulate emotions. Gently reconnect with your body in a safe and supportive way.
1-2-1 for Stress & Anxiety
Feelings of anxiety or stress can often be overwhelming. At times it can feel as though these feelings dominate our lives, often making us feel helpless. Ongoing stress and anxiety can impact upon our mood and our general well-being. This session will help to re-balance the nervous system and better regulate emotions in a safe and supportive way.
