What is Podiatry?
Podiatry is performed by a podiatrist, a specialist in the management of foot and ankle complaints including surgical correction. Our podiatrists work alongside our therapeutic team to lead our ankle and foot service.
You can expect a full biomechanical screening for structural and gait related injuries to determine the correct management, and where appropriate, prescribe orthotic devices to help restore normal function.
Many of the pathologies that clients will present with are often as a result of muscle and ligament problems.
In most cases our experienced therapy team will diagnose and treatment many of the clients seen, but for more complex cases, a consultant lead approach will prove invaluable and allow the successful management.
Injection therapy can be used for many conditions which involves using a hydrocortisone medicine to assist with acute pain or inflammation.
Any injection needs to be precise to be successful. Our podiatrist is an expert in this field and treats many common problems with great success. These include:
- Hallux Rigidis (arthritic big toe)
- Capsulitis in the lesser meta-tarsal phalangeal joints
- Midfoot degenerative changes
- Rearfoot degenerative changes
- Os Trigonum
- Sinus Tarsi Syndrome
- Heel Spurs
- Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome
- Excessive scar tissue
The use of orthotics is widespread in the medical environment. This involves placing a corrective insole into the shoe to stabilise or improve the foot function. These are made to measure ensuring that the greatest benefit can be felt and to maximise stabilisation.
Minor Surgical Procedures
Our podiatrist is able to offer a surgical opinion on foot and ankle conditions and councils clients on the risk factors and benefits together with the treatment options.
His renowned reputation enables him to refer to the current leading surgeons in the region with great confidence with the client’s care pathway at the centre. For less complicated procedures our podiatrist can offer minor surgical procedures for in grown toe nails, excision of soft tissue lesions, ganglion aspiration, amongst others.
