Mr Lawrence Bevan – Podiatrist joins the team. He will be in clinic on Saturday mornings. Lawrence specialises in all areas of biomechanical Podiatry practice including gait analysis, orthotic prescription and manufacture, sports injuries and children’s foot and walking problems.
One of our Sports Therapists, shares their clinical expertise with us on sitting well …………..
Posture at your desk
We have all read and been informed of how we should sit at our desks. Addressing certain postural positions can help reduce some of the upper body stresses associated with desk work. We cannot avoid the brutal demand placed on our hip flexors whilst sitting.
“Death by desk” is quite a harsh title but it’s a serious problem seen at Five Valleys Clinic on a daily basis. Its ramifications can lead to many muscoskeletal problems which are avoidable.
How can sitting be so harmful? Well, when you sit you place your hip flexors into a shortened position (see image). You have three hip flexors – psoas, iliacus and rectus femoris. These all work together to flex your body. They are the same muscles used when we raise our knees to our chest. These muscles respond to stress placed on them, so sitting for long periods of time allows these muscles to shorten (tighten) as the muscles feel this is the correct thing to do.
Five Valleys don’t just offer physiotherapy, our list of services are extensive.
We have great classes to compliment your treatment and aid your rehabilitation. Speak with a member of the team today to find out more – 01453 755948.

A very important part of treatment of the spine is rehabilitation, particularly for common conditions of low back pain or neck pain.
This is a circuit based session used to strengthen your deeper stability muscles as well as your generic ‘moving muscles’ like your abdominals and big back muscles. We will also focus on your pelvic control as well as strengthen your gluteal muscles which are often weak, or inactive, in many back pain sufferers.
The class is approximately 45 minutes in duration and is based around a high intensity principle. This is for anyone, whether you are an athlete or someone who just enjoys walking.
Friday 5pm -6pm

We now have one of the SOUTH WEST’s leading podiatric consultants joining our team.
The podiatrist will work alongside our therapeutic team to lead our ankle and foot service. You can expect a full biomechanical screening for structural and gait related injuries to determine the correct management, and where appropriate, he will prescribe orthotic devices to help restore normal function.
Many of the pathologies that clients will present with are often as a result of muscle and ligament problems. In most cases our experienced therapy team will diagnose and treatment many of the clients seen, but for more complex cases, a consultant lead approach will prove invaluable and allow the successful management.
