A strong 2nd means Vicky qualifies for Loughborough in the UK Cross Challenge Series
Prior to the meet for Gloucestershire County Cross Country Championships at Old Down Country Park in Tockington on Saturday 7th Jan, Vicky Price wasn’t feeling too confident. Vicky was unsure as to whether she was going to even compete let alone place.
Having struggled with shin splints recently her confidence was low. Working with 5 Valleys Physio was proving successful but there was still some work to be done.
Vicky proceeded with a thorough warm up but still felt doubtful about the ups and downs through the course hills. Walking the course enabled to her to get a full idea of the extremely steep hill on the 2 lap circuit and Vicky decided to give it a go.
As the race commenced Vicky fell into her usual position toward the rear and settled in to gradually pick off other runners. Staying up right through some very slippy sections and making it up the climb first time round was crucial to Vicky maintaining her composure.
This composure meant she felt fine on the 2nd lap and started upping the pace. Struggling up the climb for the second time Vicky knew the finish wasn’t far away now. Pushing on Vicky stormed into 2nd place and with it assisted Stroud and District AC winning the team gold.
Vicky has now qualified for the intercounties in Loughborough which is part of the UK Cross challenge series.
Well done Vicky!
